| Assembly Larne Council - Coast Road Daniel Donnelly
|
"I am delighted to have been chosen by the East Antrim branch of the Green Party as their candidate in the up-coming Assembly and Council elections. Voting Green in 2011 will mean a vote against the tribal politics of the past and a vote for a party that is committed to making Northern Ireland cleaner, greener and better for all. I have lived in Larne all my life and I am confident that I can articulate the views and aspirations of the people of East Antrim. I currently work as a staff nurse in a busy NHS hospital. My wife and I have two young children and as such we are very aware of the pressures that working families face. I have been involved in many political campaigns over the last few years including being the local organiser for the campaign against the water charges and recently the successful campaign to prevent a TESCO superstore opening at Inver Park outside the commercial centre of Larne. The Green Party is different. We are the only political party in Northern Ireland which does not accept corporate donations. Freedom from big business is the only way to ensure that government policy works for the people and not just business. |
| Carrickfergus Council - Kilroot
Mark Bailey
|
"I have lived in Whitehead for nearly 10 years and am delighted to have been selected as the Green Party candidate for the Kilroot ward of Carrickfergus Council.
I have been a long-time member of Greenpeace and joined the Green Party 7 years ago seeing it as a party committed to dealing with environmental and social issues. “The Green Party is committed to sensible policies on many of the issues which face us today. We want to expand community healthcare to help the elderly, chronically ill and physically or mentally disabled. We believe that that people should be cared for at home rather than institutions, if at all possible, and that home carers should be given proper support. We believe in locally produced clean energy and an independent Environmental Protection Agency, with powers to enforce sensible European directives such as those on drinking and bathing water. We believe in a joined up transport infrastructure to meet the needs of the people of East Antrim. The Green Party is a fresh voice on the issues facing the Northern Ireland public today.” |
